Nordic Recovery FAQ: questions and answers
Here are the questions players and parents ask most about Nordic Recovery. Can't find yours? The other pages of this wiki go into more detail.
Is Nordic Recovery free?
Your first shift is free to play, right in your browser. The rest of the game is for members. A membership also opens every other Contenta game. Your career is saved, so you can carry on after you join.
Are there ads in the game?
No. There are no ads in Nordic Recovery, and nothing to buy inside the game. The money you earn on jobs is game money that you spend in the shop.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. The game runs in your web browser, on a computer, a phone or a tablet. Just open the page and play.
Does it work on an iPad, an Android tablet or a phone?
Yes. Buttons appear on the screen as soon as you touch it. Turn your phone or tablet sideways, because the game is played in landscape only. See Touch controls on a phone or tablet.
Can I play with a controller?
Yes. Use an Xbox controller or any controller your browser reads as a standard gamepad. The symbols on screen switch to gamepad buttons, and in Chrome or Edge the controller can vibrate. All the buttons are on Controls.
How do I save my game?
The game saves by itself in your browser, on the device you play on. After a shift you can also pick Save and quit. Next time, choose Continue on the title screen. In a private window the browser may not keep your save.
How long does a shift take?
A shift is eight hours on the game clock, which is about half an hour of real time. You can pause any time with Esc, Start or ⏸. See Shifts, clock and weather.
What age is Nordic Recovery for?
It is made for kids from about 8 to 12, and for the grown-ups who play along. You read short radio calls and chats with drivers. The controls are calm, and there is no game over.
Is the game scary or violent?
No. You are there to help, and the radio often says that nobody is hurt. Cars slide into ditches or end up on their roofs, and some drivers are shaken or grumpy. After a bad crash of your own, the radio says an ambulance and the police are on their way, but you never see anyone hurt. There is no fighting and no blood.
Which languages can I play in?
Nine: English, Swedish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. You can change the language in the settings at any time.
What do I do if I'm stuck in a ditch?
Press R, Back on the gamepad or ↺ on a touch screen. The truck is put back on the road. A crash never ends the game, it just costs a little money.
How do I unlock the bus and timber truck jobs?
Buy a bigger tow truck in Workshop & shop. The heavy tow truck with boom pulls lorries and buses out of the ditch, and the rotator tow truck rights the overturned timber truck. See Tow trucks and the shop.
