AMF (Additive Manufacturing Format) is an ISO 52900:2015 open standard to address STL limitations for modern additive manufacturing. AMF uses XML for curved triangular elements, per-vertex color, multiple materials with volumetric composition, assemblies and measurement units.
AMF can specify different materials for different regions of a print, including material gradients.
Unlike STL, AMF stores per-vertex RGB color for full-color print files.
AMF curved triangle elements reduce the need for ultra-fine tessellation for smooth curved surfaces.

Commonly converted from STEP or STL for color printing, to 3MF (more widely adopted), or to STL for legacy slicer compatibility.
