Reduce glTF File Size with Draco Compression

Turn heavy CAD models into web-ready GLB files that load in a fraction of the time.

Convert STEP, OBJ, FBX or USD to glTF, enable Draco mesh compression, and export a GLB that is often 70-95% smaller - perfect for three.js, Babylon, AR and VR.

Why are your 3D models so slow to load?

Without 3D CAD Converter

  • Uncompressed GLB files of tens of megabytes that stall the browser.
  • Visitors wait seconds for a single model to appear in your viewer.
  • Online compressors cap file size and upload your private CAD data.
  • Manual gltfpack command lines you have to remember and re-type.

With 3D CAD Converter

  • Draco-compressed GLB files that download in a fraction of the size.
  • Smooth, instant loading in three.js, Babylon and AR and VR viewers.
  • Everything runs offline on your machine - your models never leave it.
  • One checkbox in the glTF settings does the compression for you.

Built for web-ready 3D

Draco mesh compression

Enable Draco in the glTF settings and the bundled gltfpack engine compresses your mesh geometry, often cutting file size by 70-95% depending on the model.

Quantization control

Tune the compression level and quantization bits to balance file size against visual precision, so smaller models still look right in your viewer.

Batch hundreds of files

Point the app at a folder and convert and compress an entire library of CAD parts to GLB in one offline run, with progress and ETA.

Web-ready GLB output

Export a single self-contained binary GLB that drops straight into three.js, Babylon, model-viewer and AR and VR scenes - no extra texture files to juggle.

Convert to GLB from the command line

Use the CLI to convert any CAD model into a binary GLB, then enable Draco compression in the desktop glTF settings to shrink it.

Convert a STEP part to a binary GLB

cadconvert convert -i part.step -o part.glb
Convert a full assembly to a web-ready GLB

cadconvert convert -i assembly.step -o web.glb --binary

Note: Draco compression is a toggle in the desktop glTF settings (with compression level and quantization), not a CLI flag. Convert to GLB on the command line, then enable Draco in the glTF options to export the smallest file.
