Game clips from ShadowPlay and OBS are way too large for Discord's 8 MB free-tier upload limit. Shrink them to fit — without losing the highlights.
Download Free TrialDiscord free users can only upload files up to 8 MB. Even Nitro subscribers are limited to 50 MB. Meanwhile, a 30-second game clip from OBS or ShadowPlay is easily 80-300 MB.
The usual workarounds are frustrating:
VideoRecompress shrinks your clips to fit Discord in four steps:
Three of our test videos through the Discord Free (8 MB) preset (H.264, 480p), measured on an RTX 3080:
| Source | Original | Compressed | Reduction |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoPro clip, 1080p, 20 seconds | 31.3 MB | 1.8 MB | −94 % |
| Lecture recording, 1440p, 28 seconds | 20.7 MB | 1.2 MB | −94 % |
| iPad video, 720p, 83 seconds | 86.1 MB | 2.2 MB | −97 % |
The preset sets resolution and quality, not a file size: a longer video makes a bigger file. Measured in September 2026 with VideoRecompress 2026.2.18.
