Everything you need to know about VideoRecompress Studio.
Learn how to install, launch, and compress your first video in under 5 minutes.
Run the setup from the download page. FFmpeg and everything else the app needs come with it. Then open VideoRecompress Studio from the Start menu.
Drop video files or scan entire folders. Supports MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM, and 20+ formats.
Pick a smart preset or configure codec, quality, and encoding settings manually.
Hit Start. GPU-accelerated encoding compresses your videos locally. See estimated space savings in real time.
Pick the right preset for your use case: home video, content creation, surveillance, or maximum savings.
Pick the job; the preset sets codec, quality and size for you. You can still change any setting.
Fine-tune codec, CRF, audio, subtitle, and hardware acceleration settings for complete control.
H.264 plays everywhere. H.265 balances quality and size. AV1 makes the smallest files and encodes slowest. VP9 suits web use.
A lower CRF keeps more detail and makes bigger files. Roughly 18 to 23 for high quality, 24 to 28 balanced, 29 to 35 for the smallest files.
Audio is copied as it is unless you change it. Subtitle tracks are kept: MKV copies every track; MP4 and MOV convert text subtitles to their own format and leave out image subtitles (PGS, DVD).
By default new files go into a subfolder next to the originals. Pick any other folder if you prefer. Originals are never modified.
Add folders, configure worker count, and let the queue process your entire video library overnight.
A worker queue encodes files in parallel: 1 to 2 workers for software encoding, 2 to 3 for hardware encoding.
Pause the queue and resume later, or cancel one job without touching the rest. Pause stops new files from starting; files already encoding finish, so nothing is left half-written.
Each file shows its own progress bar; the batch shows the time left and the space saved so far.
With the default Auto setting, the app test-encodes on each graphics encoder your PC has when it starts, and uses the first one that works, in this order:
| GPU vendor | Technology | H.264 | H.265 | AV1 | VP9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA | NVENC | h264_nvenc | hevc_nvenc | av1_nvenc | – |
| Intel | QSV | h264_qsv | hevc_qsv | av1_qsv | vp9_qsv |
| AMD | AMF | h264_amf | hevc_amf | av1_amf | – |
